Late Breaking News from GTC
Next Saturday, August 26th is our Member Appreciation Picnic. We need to know how many are coming so that we can purchase enough food. This is a big event featuring tournament finals at 10 am, barbecue at noon, awards presentations at 12:45 pm, a lucky draw table and all ages round robin at 1:15 pm. Please sign up here no later than Wednesday, Aug. 23. This event is free with a contribution to the potluck salads and desserts and includes family members. We have a great lineup of lucky draw prizes from our local merchants and sponsors.
Thank you to all who nominated members for our annual awards. It is a great honor to be nominated because it means that your presence has made a difference at our club this year.
The winners will be announced on Aug. 26th!
Congratulations to these nominees for the Schachow Cup Player Appreciation Award: Vera Bigall, Bill Gorman, Diane Ing, Dan Lang, Daisy Morris, Jared Nicholson, Susan Rabbior, Sriram Seshadri, Alex Wong.
Congratulations to these nominees for the Phil Yeoman Volunteer Service Award: Barb Gravlin, Daisy Morris, Sriram Seshadri, Al Stafford.
So come out on the 26th to show your spirit and your support; to congratulate award and tournament winners; to feast on sweet corn and delicious donated foods; to have fun in the park.
After a lot of planning our courts are finally in the queue for repair and resurfacing. The work will begin sometime between Aug. 28th and Sept. 5th, and this will result in closure of the courts for approximately two weeks. Unfortunately, there will not be enough time left to offer a fall lineup of junior and adult lessons, but we are planning to offer the Guildwood Cup team event. Details to follow.
Did you know that at least two of our members are accomplished artists? Barb Gravlin and Phil Richards are making their work available for purchase to help GTC raise some money for two ongoing initiatives – the Memorial Garden and Enclosure Facelift.
